Um ano antes, entre 1977 / 1978, Ednardo realiza o filme homônimo – Cauim, em 16 mm., P / B – média metragem de 45 minutos, todo filmado em Fortaleza, com Direção, Produção e Roteiro do próprio Ednardo, lançado em 1978 junto ao disco Cauim, em várias capitais brasileiras.
Este filme projetado durante shows de lançamento de Cauim 1978, em telas formadas por redes brancas, formando um visual inusitado naqueles tempos.
Ao chegar em Brasília, o filme foi aprendido pela repressão da ditadura militar e devolvido, no final do show com várias cenas picotadas. Mas mesmo assim foi projetado no show.
O filme Cauim é um documentário / ficção, sobre Maracatu Cearense onde Ednardo evoca a formação e afirmação da etnia cearense e brasileira – Índia, Branca e Negra e também aborda a Confederação do Equador, movimento cultural / político, que ainda na época do Império desejava estabelecer a República no Nordeste Brasileiro - Ceará, Pernambuco, Bahia, Piauí.
